Ultrasonic Anemometer
2-axis Wind Horizon 400 model
The Wind Horizon 400 ultrasonic anemometer, with digital and analogue output and heating, provides excellent cost / performance ratio for the reliable measurement of wind speed and direction. With no moving parts and rugged stainless steel construction the Wind Horizon 400 is suitable for use in harsh conditions.
Where icing is a problem, the heating will ensure continuity of data regardless of the weather and with both digital and analogue outputs ensures the sensors can be connected to any datalogger or monitoring equipment.
As the top model, the Wind Horizon 400 is the most flexible and capable of the range and can be connected to two different devices at the same time with excellent resolution and easy interfacing. For example one data output can be viewed instantaneously on a laptop or display and the other logged to a logger or SCADA system
New heating technology provides better control and power consumption as it heats only the appropriate elements and only when it is needed, ensuring 100 percent data availability regardless of weather.
The Wind Horizon 400 has the highest reliability on the market due to the combined data quality monitoring function and heating technology, which eliminates data fallout and ensures confidence in the measurements; and as there are no moving parts or running maintenance you can concentrate on the data and not the sensor.
Due to ultrasonic measurement technology the sensor provides excellent repeatability of data and error accuracy and also provides additional information such as virtual temperature.

What is does
The Wind Horizon 400 provides the following information in various data outputs which can be polled or output automatically:
instantaneous and averaged data for the horizontal wind vectors
horizontal wind speed and direction
chart mode (provides 0-540º wind direction and speed values)
NMEA value outputs
Data can be averaged by several methods:
Some other important features:
user definable north orientation (range 0-359º alignment off axis)
data quality control to perform confidence checks on raw data
date / time stamps with several options
check sum information
calibration validity output monitoring

Examples of data output
Normal data example (instantaneous). Every data string starts with a header line that consists of the string SNC followed by a space and 12 characters for the date/time stamp, another space and finally the UTC string ie:
SNC 940815090015 UTC
x = 1.83 y = -0.79 T = 20.17
SNC 940815090015 UTC AVE 600 SMP 10 AZI 0 SDQ 100 HTR
where
| AVE |
the averaging time |
| SMP |
the sampling rate in Hertz |
| AZI |
the device azimuth |
| SDQ |
the sonic data quality |
| HTR |
informs the user that the sensor head heating is turned on |
| x |
mean x wind component in the sensor related orthogonal co-ordinate system (parallel to the black arrow on the electronic box); unit m/s |
| y |
mean y wind component in the sensor related orthogonal co-ordinate system (horizontally perpendicular to x); unit m/s |
| T |
mean temperature; unit ºC |
| vel |
mean horizontal wind velocity; unit m/s |
| dir |
mean horizontal wind direction (depends on setting of parameter AZ); unit° |
