Meteo Comp Wind and Temperature System

The Meteo Comp is a complete, cost effective, ready to use, wind speed, wind direction and external temperature measurement system.

Comprising a cup and vane anemometer (top photo), indoor digital LED display (bottom photo), 20 m of cable (to run between anemometer and display) and approximately 1.5 m of power cable (from the mains power adapter to the indoor LED display unit).

Features

  • very cost effective, reliable and accurate weather station
  • suitable for small business, school or home users
  • easy read display provides instantaneous and maximum values
  • simple and easy installation

What it does

The Meteo Comp system provides the following information:

  • wind velocity in m/s, km/h or Beaufort
  • temperature in °C, °F or wind chill temperature
  • displays the min.-max. values of all the measurement units occurring within the preceding 24 hours

Component Parts
Meteo Comp (model number 104784) is comprised of:

  • Outdoor component: a combined wind speed and direction sensor  for the acquisition of the wind speed and direction as well as ambient temperature with 20 m cable to run between the sensor and display.

  • The temperature sensor is located in the mounting arm for the wind speed indicator.

  • Indoor component: a digital LED wind speed and direction display  with power supply unit and "plug and play" connector to the display.

How to Install

The Meteo Comp system is easy to install and should be located in an open area with no obstructions to the wind flow i.e. half a metre above the peak of a roof. It is secured by tightening the screws on the shaft of the anemometer onto a 30 mm diameter pole*. The display can be free standing on a table or wall mounted. Once the cables are connected and the display is plugged into the mains the Meteo Comp will measure the wind and temperature and output the data to the LED display.

Output data to a PC

As well as viewing the data on the LED display the data can also be output from the display unit directly to a PC via RS232 serial connection.

  • It can be viewed as an ASCII string using Terminal or HyperTerminal (free program with Microsoft Windows)

  • Example of ASCII string whereby column 1 = windspeed (m/s, km/h or Beaufort), column 2 = wind direction (0 - 360º) and column 3 = temperature (ºC, ºF or wind chill):

    1.2 270.0 22.9
    2.4 292.5 23.0
    1.6 292.5 23.0
    1.6 315.0 23.0
    0.8 315.0 23.0

  • Alternatively the optional Meteo-Online graphical software can be used for enhanced viewing.

  • The software is capable of data logging as well as display with the ability to set up individual hour files or day files. In addition Meteo-Online is internally divided into two programs:

      • Server

      • Display

These are two independent programs interchanging data. The server’s task is to process the data from the connected instruments, to document them, and to hold them available for display (client). The display program queries cyclically the data from the server and displays them in graphical form

This structure has the following advantages:

  • The server is able to document data without display.

  • The server is able to administrate several terminals at the same time (limited only by the number of physical interfaces).

  • Server and display can run on different computers in a network.

  • Several display programs can simultaneously access one server.

  • The server is started automatically on booting the PC, and documents the data in the background.

  • The display is started only on request.

Meteo-Online offers the possibility to install the data server (OwServer.EXE), and the display (MeteoOnline.EXE) on different PC's.

There are 2 versions of the Meteo-Online graphical software available, namely the standard version and the advanced version. The advanced software includes data monitoring functions to check the incoming measuring values on threshold values or alarm parameters.

It is possible to connect several meteorological instruments to the Meteo-Online providing the instruments have serial data outputs and can be connected to the PC.
