First Class Wind Speed and Direction System
High specification mechanical cup and vane anemometer
This First Class wind speed and direction system is designed for the measurement of the horizontal component of the wind speed for meteorological applications, siteevaluation and the measurement of capacity characteristics of wind power systems.
The system includes high specification mechanical cup and vane anemometers which can be mounted on an appropriate traverse / bracket for use on masts and weather stations etc.
The system has defined and optimised, dynamic behaviour even in high turbulence intensities as well as minimal over-speeding and a low starting speed.
The data is output as digital signals and can be recorded using a PC or Thies data logger. If you are interested in a display please see refer to the digital wind speed and wind direction displays listed under accessories below.
For winter operation the instrument is equipped with electronically regulated heating which guarantees smooth running of the ball bearings and prevents the moving parts from icing-up

What it Does
The First Class wind speed and direction system has a sensitive wind direction vane and 3 rotating cups that move around a high quality bearing system providing a set amount of rotations for each wind speed. The amount of rotations are directly proportional to wind speed and this allows this sensor to be integrated into a wide variety of stations or logging systems.
Examples of data output
The wind speed data is output in the form of a rectangular Hz signal (example 1000 Hz at 112 mph).
The wind direction data is output as a digital signal with values between 0-360º.

Accessories
Available as accessories with the First Class series cup and vane anemometers are the following digital wind speed and direction displays. Additionally mounting adapters and cabling are available on request.
1. Digital wind speed and direction display model 4.3250.xx.000
Using a RS422 interface to connect to the wind speed and direction sensors the displays indicate the wind direction in a circle of 72 LED luminous bars and the speed by 7 segment LEDs.
a) The model 4.3250.xx.000 provides
the minimum and maximum wind speed values can be indicated by two other digit displays.
Display options of the Wind Speed:
Display options of the Wind Direction:
The calculation of the mean values and maximum values is carried out in accordance to the ICAO standards. These displays together with the First Class sensors are suitable for airfield use.
2. Digital wind speed and direction display models 4.3251.xx.000
This model is designed for use on ships. It is similar to the 4.3250.xx.000 above except that it has a direction circle divided in red and green LEDs according to port side and starboard.
b) The model 4.3251.xx.000 provides
