Eigenbrodt Precipitation and Fog Collectors for Research Projects
Eigenbrodt Precipitation and Fog Collectors provide data for studies around the world
Eigenbrodt are specialists in precipitation instruments having manufactured high specification automatic precipitation collectors for more than 20 years with hundreds of units deployed world wide in all climate conditions. Below are just a few of the projects in which they are used:
Project: PREDICT
Location: Andes
As part of the PREDICT project to understand the precise amount of precipitation in the tropical mountain forests of the Andes a NES210 Eigenbrodt Fog Collector was used to evaluate the characteristics of six manual quadratic polypropylene mesh collectors.
Also deployed was a BIRAL VPF-730 forwardscatter meter to measure the atmospheric extinction and horizontal visibility, rain rate, particle number, droplet spectra and rain type. In a field campaign from December 2001 to April 2003 additional measurements of vertical rainfall profiles were performed with the METEK Micro Rain Radar.

Project: MED POL study
Location: Mediterranean region
As part of the MED POL airborne pollution monitoring and modelling programme the Eigenbrodt Model NSA181 wet-only rain sampler was deployed in Turkey, at a met station 50 km from Ankara.

Project: The Dutch National Air Quality Monitoring Network (LML in Dutch)
Location: Netherlands
During the LML project the Eigenbrodt Model NSA181 wet-only rain sampler was deployed for the sampling of precipitation to determine:
degree of acidity (pH)
conductivity at 25 oC
strong acid (H)
ammonium (NH4)
sodium ( Na))
magnesium (Mg)
calcium(Ca)
potassium (K)
chloride (Cl)
sulphate (SO4)
nitrate (NO3)
whilst the Eigenbrodt UNS120 was used for the sampling and determination of mercury.

Project: Musk compounds in the Nordic environment
Location: Scandinavia
For this project it was recommended that the rain water samples were taken with a cooled wet-only sampler like the Eigenbrodt NSA181/KE with a funnel area of about 500 cm2. Otherwise the sampling laboratory has to insure that the sample temperature does not exceed 4 °C, the sample is kept protected against UV-light and that no dry deposition takes place.
Project: SYCON (Synthesis and New Concept for North Sea Research)
The research project SYCON had the objective of summarising and evaluating the current knowledge on the North Sea. For this purpose ten working groups were established. An Eigenbrodt precipitation collector was deployed as well as a Metek ultrasonic anemometer for ship board turbulence studies.
